NRCCS to Present Free Screening of “Uncharitable”

Wednesday, January 22 at 12 noon at the New Rochelle Public Library

Author Dan Pallotta’s TED Talk on charities was voted the most persuasive of all time, exposing the dark side of philanthropy and introducing a radical new way of giving. His best-selling book “Uncharitable” – hailed as “the non-profit sector’s new manifesto” – inspired a documentary by the same name. The New Rochelle Council of Community Services (NRCCS) will host a free community film screening and conversation about “Uncharitable” at the New Rochelle Public Library on Wednesday, January 22: The film will be shown at 12 Noon, followed by a conversation that will be facilitated by Theresa Kump Leghorn, President of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts.

“This is our first meeting of the new year, and we are thrilled to bring this thought-provoking film to the community,” said NRCCS President Karenann Carty. “Our event is free and open to the public, and we especially hope that local non-profits will send their staff, volunteers, and board members.”

Carty notes that the powerful film challenges our beliefs about giving and the role of non-profit in our society: “Uncharitable” calls for non-profits to be freed from traditional constraints and given the same freedoms given to businesses so they can truly change the world.

The New Rochelle Council of Community Services (NRCCS) is a non-profit organization

that brings together community and non-profit leaders to assess and meet vital needs in New Rochelle by sharing information and collaborating to implement solutions. NRCCS is the umbrella organization for the health and human service agencies, religious institutions and educational facilities of the City of New Rochelle. The Council’s Board of Directors consists of representatives of many of these agencies as well as local residents: Currently Karenann Carty serves as President, with Vice President Denise Link, Treasurer Milllicent Lee and Secretary Edward Castoro. The NRCCS welcomes new community resources and seeks to build collaborations to strengthen our community and serve its ever-changing needs. For more information visit the website at https://nrccs.org/
